murdering her husband and then burying him in their backyard. it would take years for anyone to figure out what happened. but now lori will finally pay for her evil crime. >> all right. and we are here for sentencing today. >> it's the close to a decade long saga. >> the court hereby sentences you to a term of life in the florida department of corrections. >> wife and mother lori shaver sentenced for the murder of her husband, michael, in lake count, florida. lori shaver's manipulative and narcissistic behavior isolated michael from his family and friends, depriving us of a chance to be part of his life. the devastating loss is not only taking away a beloved family member, but also deeply impacting his two innocent children. michael's brother making an emotional victim impact statement to the court. just days earlier, lori sent a 12 page handwritten letter to the judge, once again denying she took michael's life,

claiming i did not pull the trigger. in court, the prosecutor slammed lori and called for the maximum sentence possible. >> the shaver is quite possibly the most manipulative defendant i have ever had charged with murder. >> now michael's family is hoping this will finally bring them some solace. ten years after his death, we talked often, and his last words ever to me, which i will always cherish, was, i love you, sis. >> i never heard from him again. >> michael's older sister, stacy turner, shared her memories only with true crime news after the trial, saying she was living in new york and kept in touch with michael by phone until the year it all turned so strange. >> i would get messages that just didn't sound like michael. and then my daughter tried to send him a message and she got a message back, supposedly from

michael, and it says, who are you? i don't know who you are. i don't have any family. just leave me alone. >> and that's because it wasn't him. michael shaver was already dead. >> let's focus on the totality of circumstances, showing how she impersonated him to his friends and family members through texts, facebook message. >> lori shaver had taken over michael's social media accounts, posing as her husband after shooting him in the back of the head and burying his body in the backyard of the family home. >> i do recall a message that i sent to her. i told her that i'm trying to find michael because my mother was very sick. we actually thought my mother was going to die. i said, i can't get ahold of michael. and she's like, well, i'll tell him. and she never responded back to me. >> it would take three long years before the truth was finally uncovered.

>> we actually put all of our pieces together and we said, okay, it's time to go to the police. >> stacy asked one of michael's friends to contact police and perform a welfare check, told the deputies to leave her property and then about a month later, we showed up with a search warrant. a search warrant and a startling discovery. >> they did call me and tell me that they were going to start digging. it was devastating for my entire family because i'm the one who had to tell my mom that they found him under a shallow grave, described as a fire pit and covered by shoddy concrete slabs, was michael's body hidden there? >> by lori herself? >> once they found the body in the yard? i knew right away it was her. my gut told me it was her and nobody else put him there. it was her. >> at trial, lori tearfully took the stand in her own defense, claiming she was a battered wife. the couple had agreed to

divorce, but lori dropped a bombshell. >> i'm saying okay, okay, okay, we can work it out. he told me. not this time. >> was he upset about anything in particular that you're aware of? >> yes. he found out i had gotten pregnant. >> then defense attorneys told jurors it was her then seven year old daughter who pulled the trigger to protect her mom from being attacked by michael. the now 15 year old isabel shaver, whose face was not shown, tried to take the fall for her mother. >> i shot him. >> did you feel when you fired that shot that that had to be done, or he would have killed your mother? yes. >> yes, yes. >> firm on that. >> i'm firm on that. >> she could throw her then seven year old daughter under the bus when isabel was on the stand. lori wouldn't even look at her. >> the evidence in this case is that she's guilty of second

degree murder. >> in the end, the six person jury agreed. >> the defendant is guilty of second degree murder. >> now, as lori shaver begins her life sentence in prison, michael's family can only try to repair their own heartbreak and lives. we all just kind of sat in the courthouse. >> a lot of hugging, a lot of crying, a lot of thanking god. and the next day, we all kind of got together and just just remembered him. >> now a man, a wife and a mistress. it is the oldest story in the book, but this one has extra unbelievable chapters that just keep coming. one of the 3xn in this deadly love triangle won't make it out alive. >> bexar county 911. what is your location in this very spot? >> just off the edge of loop 1604, in san antonio, texas, three lives collided. francis

hall, bonnie contreras, and the man they both loved, bill hall jr, owner of a san antonio, texas $15 million trucking company. >> dad was the type of person that loved us so much he wanted to give us everything. he was a very, very generous, very happy man. >> he loved motorcycles. he loved cars. >> he also loved young women. >> when i locked eyes with him, it's kind of like we were trying to read each other's thoughts, you know, bill met the much younger bonnie contreras either at a county fair or a strip club. >> depends on who you ask. over the next three years, bonnie and bill appeared to have become inseparable. their relationship didn't seem to be a secret. they even sent out christmas cards together. the married man and grandparent lavishing his mistress with five star getaways

and expensive gifts. >> she gets her boobs done. multiple luxury cars, watches, purses. bill fell victim to her trap to say the least. >> but like so many affairs, this one cooled off. at least for bill. it did, or so he said. >> his closest friends would say he couldn't get out. he was stuck. she had taken all these little tidbits of evidence, all these compromising photos. she had weaseled her way into different facets of his life and was basically blackmailing him. >> soon, things spun out of control. after the mistress calls the wife and tells all, and then in the hours that follow, there come videos of the mistress and bill having sex. >> i mean, very graphic footage. >> she had told my mother she was going to show up at my mother's office and beat her up. >> 53 year old frances had never met her 28 year old nemesis, but on loop 1604, in san antonio, their lives would collide in a way they'd never forget.

>> francis is leaving her niece's volleyball game. she comes to a stoplight. she sees bill go by on his big custom harley. a few seconds later, she sees her range rover, her $130,000 brand new car drive by with this woman she has never laid eyes on. in her life. >> we came to that stoplight and he's like, like, roll your window down. so i rolled my window down and my cousin was on the speakerphone and he goes, i love you so much, gordon. he goes, i'm so happy. i said, i love you too, hon. that was the last time i heard his voice. >> a 32 year marriage in ruins. her husband's young mistress driving her family car. the whole sordid realization puts francis right out of her mind. according to her attorney. >> she says i gripped the steering wheel and i just go that francis hits the gas in her

black cadillac escalade and makes a u-turn, a decision that will destroy many lives. >> bexar county 911. what is your location? i got a black escalade and a black range rover driving on the passing people on the wrong side of the road on 1604, going towards highway 90. they're traveling at a high rate of speed, i don't know, 90 or 100 miles an hour acting like idiots. >> i feel somebody hit me from behind. and then i was like, what the heck? and then i felt it again, and i looked through my rearview mirror and it's francis in the truck. >> bonnie claims francis rams her 14 times. >> bill was in front of me. bill didn't know she was behind me yet, and bill was on the bike. and then she kept hitting me and hitting me, and she threw me onto oncoming traffic as the chase unfolds, a chilling voicemail arrives from francis's daughter, nikki. >> i told you to watch your back. she's a, the mistress

now, more on the murder case driven by lust, greed and vengeance, a trucking tycoon falls for a much younger woman. his jilted wife tries to break up the affair, and a bloody crime scene spills out onto a stretch of texas highway. >> i just saw an escalade, sideswipe a motorcycle, and the man needs medical attention immediately. >> i remember yelling at the top of my lungs and i yelled, francis just hit bill! >> francis is jealous and rage filled. high speed chase suddenly turned deadly while targeting bonnie, the mistress francis slams into her own husband. bonnie escapes in the escalade. when she returns to the crash site, bill is clinging to life. >> i don't want a picture in. >> i wish i could have just held him so tight with my arms and told him how much i loved him,

how much i needed him. >> francis is there too, and police quickly notice her damaged cadillac. >> a patrol officer comes by and tells the sergeant, hey, i'm talking to someone over here, which was bonnie, who says that the wife ran him off the road at the time. francis hears this, she gets up and leaves her dying husband's side and starts to walk away. >> moments later, francis hall, a 50 year old mother with no criminal history, is in handcuffs and processed at the police station while bill dies in the hospital. >> i've been with them since i was 16. >> never in my life did i ever think that we'd be sitting here waiting to see our mother. like the reality really hit the

dramatic trial that followed captured national attention. >> i would have never hurt my husband. >> please don't take me from my kids. >> despite tearful testimony, the jury found francis guilty on one count of murder and another of aggravated assault while she was looking at life behind bars, the jury finds her crimes have been an act of what texas lawmakers call sudden passion. >> then that changes the range of punishment to 2 to 20. >> and when you're in law school, what they teach you is the classic example of sudden passion is you walk in and find your spouse having sex with another person. >> it was just raw grief and she she begged the jury to show mercy and said that she would never have killed her husband because she loved him too much.
